Abstract: Data is the new oil, and in the healthcare industry this often means “real world data” or RWD. There are many forms of RWD, but of particularly interest for decision-makers in healthcare it is the health system data that is routinely collected during patient care. Although this data is referred to as administrative data (for running the health system) it is a rich source of information on the burden of disease to understand epidemiology, patient demographic and clinical characteristics, treatment pathways, and health system utilization and costs associated with care.
The current presentation will present an overview of Canadian RWD sources, process and requirements for accessing data , latest trends (outcomes-based agreements), and a few case study examples.
